Easter morning usually starts off with a bang for most parents. Kids get an Easter basket filled with candy. Ahhh, the joys of sugar rushes! For those of us who are trying to be a little more health conscious, this can be a struggle. Chocolate bunnies, marshmallow treats and jelly beans are hard to compete with. Celebrating Easter, treating your children and still remaining sugar and candy free is a challenge. Here are several ideas for Easter baskets that will free you from the candy woes this Easter. Easter Basket Alternative #1 Arts & Crafts Basket - For your child who loves to be crafty or for a young child who enjoys coloring and painting, an arts and crafts basket is ideal. Take an empty basket and fill it with arts and crafts items. I suggest finger paints or paints and brushes, crayons, markers, a craft kit, maybe a kit to learn to knit for an older child. You can add a sketch pad or coloring books and maybe even a model kit for a boy. Use tissue paper to fill in the bottom or any gaps. Easter Basket Alternative #2 Girly Girl Basket - For a little girl or a teen girl who loves to dress up, make up a girly girl basket! Bath supplies, hair ties, nail polish, makeup and jewelry make wonderful basket stuffers. For a young girl, a feather boa would make great filler! You could also add temporary tattoos or glitter stickers. Easter Basket Alternative #3 Sports Basket - For the sports enthusiast, a sports basket is perfect. Whatever your child's favorite sport is, you can kind basket fillers to match. An actual football or soccer ball, sports cards, Nerf balls, sports drinks or water bottles, hair ties, sweat bands, jerseys and even power bars for snacks would all be great. Easter Basket Alternative #4 Cars & Trucks Basket - For your little one who is addicted to toy cars and trucks, what could better than a basket of cars? Toy cars and trucks, toy keys, a car carrier and even a map rug would all be great for this basket. Car themed stickers, posters and model cars are also great additions. Easter Basket Alternative #5 Favorite Character Basket - Whatever your child's favorite cartoon or movie character is - from Barbie, to SpongeBob to Elmo, you can make a theme basket to match. Fill an empty basket with such items as plush toys, stickers, DVDs, character themed cups and plates, character themed toothbrushes and bath items and even dress up clothes. You could even add a t-shirt with your child's favorite character on it, character themed fruit snacks, video games featuring their favorite character, towels or action figures. Your little one will fall in love. For all of these baskets, after you have filled them, stuff any bare spots or holes with tissue paper or Easter grass, wrap them in cellophane and tie with a bow! |

Review of girl games dress up makeup::Crazy Dress up Days?
Sally sat on the front step surrounded by pumpkins. Big pumpkins and little pumpkins sat everywhere. Sally had been carving pumpkins for two days. She really didn't mind. It gave her a chance to think about the new guy in class. Her mom and dad always had big parties on Halloween. Sally would stand at the door and pass out candy. Sally had her 16th birthday party in September and now she was allowed to date. The only trouble was the boy she liked didn't have a clue. She had dropped every hint possible. She had dropped her books at his feet in the hallway. He helped her pick them up and then walked away. He never paid any attention to Sally. Tonight she was going to dress up as a witch and pass out the candy. Sally really wanted to spend the night on a date. She had visions of going to dances and football games with Jake. Sometimes she would write down their names on a piece of paper. Sally and Jake seemed to blend together. The two names just rolled off her tongue when she would say them. Jake had moved here at the beginning of the school year. He lived two doors from Sally. Her mom had invited Jake's family to the Halloween party. Sally had asked her mom this morning if they were coming. Her mom said she did not receive an answer. Sally wasn't going to think about it. If they came it would be nice. Sally's best friend Lorilee was going to help pass out candy. They always got so many kids. It was probably because of all the decorations. There were witches, ghosts and spiders all over the yard. Her dad loved Halloween. It was his favorite time of year. At the start of October he would begin playing scary movies. The house was decorated in orange and black. Sally liked Halloween. Her parents loved it. They went overboard with costumes. This year her dad was going to be a cowboy. He'd been playing the part for weeks. The cowboy hat he was wearing was silly. It was way too big. When she mentioned it to him he totally ignored her. Her mom was going to dress up as an egyptian princess. Sally had to admit that her mom was very pretty. She was tall and thin with an olive complexion. When Sally had first seen her in her costume she knew her mom would be the highlight of the party. Dad adored mom. He gave her anything that she wanted. There was a fancy sportscar sitting in the garage. Mom said when Sally got her license she could drive it. For their 18th wedding anniversary Dad had given mom a beautiful diamond ring. Sally thought mom was a very lucky woman. Sally stood up and dusted off her jeans. She had pumpkin shavings all over her. Sally heard mom call her name. She went inside to see what she needed. Mom was standing on a ladder yelling at dad. "Wild Bill, will you please help me hang this sign" Dad's name was actually Steve but mom was making reference to the cowboy hat. Dad came over and helped hang the banner. They hung it across the alcove. It said Welcome on the top and Happy Halloween on the bottom. Mom climbed down off the ladder and went to get dressed. Dad was playing halloween music. Sally rolled her eyes and went to get dressed. The caterer would be arriving soon. Sally was starving. He couldn't get here fast enough. She wanted to eat before the guests started arriving. Mom wouldn't like it but she was hungry. Sally opened her bedroom door and saw her costume laying on the bed. She'd be the perfect witch. Her hat was pointed and so were her shoes. Mom had looked everywhere to find her pointed shoes. She'd probably never wear them again after tonight. Sally dressed and went downstairs to find something to eat. Dad had the fog machine running. Everywhere she looked all she saw was fog. She went out into the kitchen to see if the caterer had arrived. He was in the kitchen putting the last minute touches on the buffet. She got a dish and started putting food on it. The caterer never said a word. There was appetizers at one end of the buffet. As she went down the table she saw a main dish, potatoes, vegetables, salads and her favorite macaroni and cheese. She helped herself to a large helping of macaroni and cheese. As soon as she finished her plate of food the door bell rang. She went in the living room to answer the door. The fog was so thick she couldn't see who came in. Her next thought was that Dad needed to set the fog machine back a little bit. She heard her dad talking. It must be some of his friends. He always invited everybody from work. As Sally walked into the alcove she bumped right into someone in a Frankenstein costume. She said sorry for running into him and went into the den. Dad had the music so loud. It was too loud for conversation. She turned it down a notch and sat down on the couch. She had a few minutes before the kids would start ringing the doorbell. Her friend Lorilee walked into the den looking for her. Lorilee told Sally she'd come around the back of the house. She looked at Sally and said "what's with all the fog"? Sally said "Tell me about it". The girls walked out into the dining room and started toward the front door. Lorilee was dressed as a nurse. She really looked the part. The costume was perfect for her. Lorilee was the first one to hear the children coming up the path. The girls agreed that they would take turns giving out candy. The first little girl at the door was scared of Sally's costume. She thought Sally was a real witch. Lorilee handed her the candy and she ran off. Lorilee asked Sally if Jake and his family would be at the party. Sally shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know. The party would be perfect if Jake would come. They could go off by themselves and talk. It wasn't looking good. A lot of people came at the same time. Jake was not in the group. Sally could hear her mom laughing in the background. She couldn't see her though. Her dad must have gone in a turned the smoke machine up higher. Sally just shook her head. There was nothing she could do with him. It was 8:00 and still no sign of Jake. Sally was so sad. This would have been the perfect time to get better acquainted. Life seemed so unfair. Her friend Lorilee never said a word about Jake. She just kept passing out candy. One little boy in a ninja costume came to the door three times. Sally just smiled. At least he was having a good time. When the last of the children had come and gone the girls went into the kitchen. It was the only place you could see two feet in front of you. The music was loud and scary movies were playing in the den. Sally thought at least she could get something to eat. If Jake wasn't coming at least she would have something good to eat. Sally walked over to the buffet and helped herself to the rigatoni. She went to take her first bite and Lorilee called her name. Sally looked up and the rigatoni spilled all over her costume. Sally smiled and said "I thought you'd like to know Jake is here". Sally's heart was beating a mile a minute. She was covered in sauce. Jake was standing right behind Sally. She said the first thing that came to mind. "Would you like something to eat". Jake started to laugh and Sally and Lorilee started laughing so hard that tears were falling down their faces. Sally's black eyeliner was everywhere. Her face was caked in makeup. She had put on a lot of makeup to go with her halloween costume. Jake helped Sally clean up the mess. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying the party. Jake turned out to be a lot of fun. He was more down to earth than what Sally had thought. Jake stayed till the party ended. He promised to come back again. Sally felt bad about ruining her costume but, she was sure glad she spilled that rigatoni. It had broken the ice. Now Jake and Sally could be friends. Maybe someday she'd get that date she wanted. This Halloween party had been a success. The last thing Jake said as he walked down the path was "Happy Halloween". |
